As any good beer-fester knows, it’s important to make notes when you’re tasting - if only to remember what exactly you tasted at the end of the day. So like a good girl, I endeavored to take diligent and detailed notes at this year’s American Craft Beer Fest at the World Trade Center in Boston. What follows is a list of everything I tried along with whatever descriptive terms I managed to scratch-down as we scurried from booth to booth. Now, as with any event that invites - nay, requires you to drink as much beer as possible, note-taking became harder and harder as the day wore on. What follows is exactly what I wrote, with only a few limited changes. I’ve also put stars next to my favorites and would heartily recommend that if they’re available in your area, you give them a try!

*Ipswich - Summer Barleywine: Tart, sharp, but malty. Slight apple-y taste to it. Really good. Complex, interesting flavors.

Ithaca - Partly Sunny: Mello, summery, lemony. Afternoon on the porch kind of beer.

Southern Tier - Cherry Saison: Smells like corn on the cob. Tastes a little too “juice”-y.

Sixpoints - Northern Lights Saison (limited batch!): Hoppy, delicious!!

*Victory - Wild Devil: Kind of rye-ish but refreshing. Hop Devil + bacteria. Never tasted anything quite like it before.

*Pretty Things - Sisyphus: As wonderful and complex as everything they make. Fruity but subtle. “Blowing me away” - I think Ryan Kelley said that.

Terrapin - 90 Shelling Scotch Ale: Clean, cool, not overly malty. Very balanced flavors. Really different than most scotch ales I’ve had.

Ipswich -Summer: Sharp, dry. Good but not great.

Watch City - Clockwork Summer/Wit/Hops Explosion: All good!

Brooklyn - Cuvee de Cordova: Fragrant, flowery. [In my notes, I actually wrote “floury.” Drunk-town.]

Brooklyn - Intesified Coffee: COFFEE!!!!

*Ommegang - Biere de Mars: Another bacteria-beer. Fascinating. I want more.

*Dogfish Head - Sah’tea: BEST THING EVER. Indian spice tea in beer form.

Speakeasy - Bootlegger Black: A little smokey, dark, cool, crisp.

Blue Hills - Watermelon Wheat: Tastes like watermelon. Sweet but not too sweet. Surprisingly balanced. Curious.

CBC - Imperial Skibsol: Smokehouse in my mouth.

Paper City - Radler: Super-lemoney. Lots o’ lemon. Some honey?

Mad River - Dread River: Red, delicious.

Left-Hand - Juju Ginger: Excellent.

Oskar Blues - Yella: Classy as hell!

Rogue - Morimoto Soba: Tastes like Kettle Corn! Honey, orange?

Flying Dog - (Woody Creek?) Wit: Good, lemony, solid.

Duck-Rabitt - Milk Stout: Delicious!
