Dogfish Head Quick Sip Clips: Punkin Ale

Dogfish Head founder/president Sam Calagione describes the creation of Punkin Ale, their fall seasonal pumpkin beer.

“We entered it in its first homebrew competition and the judges were all ‘Pumpkin in beer?’

We were all ‘Yup.’

and they were all ‘First place. We love it.’”

The folks at the Diablo Royale Este saloon in New York are busy injecting cans of Tecate with simple syrup and lime juice and putting them in the freezer (not before jamming a stick through it of course) for four days to create delicious beer flavored popsicles.

Engineers over at Yelp have put together a really need system for their office kegerator. It uses a jailbroken iPad to display stats on the beer in the keg and keeps track of who’s had how much. Follow the link for details on how Yelp did it. Reminds me a bit of the keg that tweets from last year.

Last week we covered some of the great places and great beer we had while in Chicago, but that wasn’t all the town had to offer. While the Goose Island Brew Pub and Miller’s Pub were a lot of fun, there were plenty more beer-centric locales to try while in town.

Recently some of Beeriety crew headed to lovely Chicago, IL to take in the sights, sounds and tastes of The Second City. While we were there, we got the chance to check out many of Chicago’s best beer bars and sample some of the tasty brews that we just can’t get in our home base of Boston. Here’s a quick run-down of where we went and what we drank.

Beer remains most popular alcoholic beverage in US according to latest Gallup drinking survey

41% of American drinkers prefer beer to liquor or wine. Beer has been the most popular drink every year since the poll’s first year in 1992 with the exception of 2005. That same year the hit film Sideways had people crazy for pinot noir, which may explain the fluke. While beer remains consistently popular it has slid from its high of 47% in 1992.
